Vert le Nord is a major greening and pavement removal project aiming a significant reduction of urban heat islands (UHIs) thus providing better living and working conditions for the northern part of Montreal. These urban islands with extreme temperatures have a strong impact on the environment and health. This project aims to mobilize communities in the boroughs of Ahuntsic-Cartierville, Saint-Laurent and Villeray–Saint-Michel–Parc-Extension, where the population is vulnerable to the effects of UHIs and air pollution.
Vert le Nord is a major social and environmental project. Let’s work together to reduce urban heat islands in our neighborhoods.
Planting trees can lower the temperature by 15°C
Here are some key figures on planting projetcs benefits.
Green and white roofs decrease immensely the temperature.
